此次中国科学技术大学自主研发的毫秒级时间分辨冷冻电镜技术正是基于这一理念，在冷冻同步精度、原位高分辨三维重构等方面实现了提升。团队将光遗传学刺激反应与毫秒级投入冷冻方法相结合，不用将神经突触从细胞中分离，可以直接在接近生理状态的环境下开展观测。通过激光精准触发神经信号后，在4毫秒至300毫秒的关键时间窗口内完成急速冷冻，首次清晰拍到突触囊泡“亲吻”细胞膜、形成微小通道释放信号分子，之后又“收缩离开”的完整动态链——相当于制作了一部分子尺度的“高清影片”。这一成果不仅统一了半个世纪以来学界关于突触囊泡释放与回收机制的争议模型，还为理解神经信号传递、神经可塑性及相关脑疾病机理提供全新视角。
